Causa was more than a meal; it was a whole experience. From the moment we set foot in the door, every aspect of our time at the restaurant felt meticulously curated to provide fine dining. Each dish was so unique and delicious, but what made them especially engaging was the way each staff member would explain the dish when it was served -- the concept, the history, the ingredients. So cool. We also did the wine pairing to bring the tasting menu to another level. It didn't disappoint, but be prepared to drink a good amount along with your food. Too many standouts to list here, but if you're looking to splurge, Causa is definitely an excellent choice in DC!

Went there (Amazonia) for Friend's birthday dinner. We sat upstairs and it was a vibrant yet intimate setting which I really enjoyed? Though tables were on the smaller side. We ordered 3 whole fish prepared a few different ways. We also had a few apps and the lomo saltado. The highlight of the meal were the drinks - perfectly balanced yet interesting. The food was okay yet nothing wow'd me. I would go back to try other dishes and skip the whole fish. Oh, dessert was delish!

We really enjoyed our dining experience at Amazonia. We found that the dishes were great for sharing. We ordered a bunch of stuff that sounded good and split it family style. The anticucheria are unique! My husband was daring enough to try the duck tongue, but I was not. The salmon belly was great, though! The lomo saltado hot dish is a must try! The service was good! The kitchen had an extra dish that we didn't order, so they gave it to us, and we got a bonus entree. The restaurant is upscale but not overly fancy. It's dimly lit and had a trendy tropical jungle vibe. We had a great time! Oh, and the cocktails were delicious and specially crafted!

We had a fantastic dinner at Amazonia! The service is superb, and we loved all the detail that went into the decor. I'd recommend getting an early reservation since they fill up quickly and get very busy! The drinks were perfect - we got the classic punch (sweet and islandy) and the Amazonia punch (the smoke makes it very fun) The cebiche clasico was delicious and had a lot of fish in it. We got the chefs selection kabob plate and the salmon was AMAZING. It was so tender and buttery, I'm confused how they were able to get it on skewers. It also came with chicken, scallops, and asparagus, which were all great. Lastly, we got the pulpo al josper, and the octopus was cooked perfectly - and the sides it comes with were tasty and filling! Overall, it was a wonderful time and great experience!

Amazonia is part of a dual concept space in Blagden Alley, with Causa on the first floor and Amazonia upstairs. The space features plush green seating and lush greenery, creating a vibrant, tropical atmosphere. Cocktails: I tried two cocktails. The Aqara Cobbler (aqará, manzanilla sherry, tamarindo, ají panca, lemon, and orange) had good flavor but was too sweet and packed with ice, leaving little to drink. The Chancaca Old Fashioned (Ron Cartavio XO rum, Wild Turkey bourbon, chancaca, citrus peel, spices, and bitters) was strong and flavorful, hitting all the right notes. Food: The Patacones (plantain, mushrooms, heart of palm, béchamel, cecina floss) was a delicious starter. The Chaufa Putumayo (chorizo, cecina, jasmine rice, egg, soy, sesame, scallions) from the "Hot" section was a flavorful fried rice dish with a shareable portion size. For dessert, I had the Chazuta (macambo, passion fruit, huacatay, matcha green tea), which was highly recommended by my server. It was decadent with bright passion fruit notes. Service: Welcoming, prompt, and professional! The server was knowledgeable about the menu and made excellent recommendations based on the desired flavors. A great experience overall! I'm looking forward to trying Causa next!

What an overall great experience! Causa offers creative, modern, delicious Peruvian-Japanese fusion food. With the more casual a-la-carte Amazonia on the 2nd floor, you have your choice of the Michelin-starred Causa tasting menu on the first floor or more casual Amazonia on the 2nd floor. Causa had fantastic service with servers providing great overviews, of the food, ingredients, and history and culture of the dishes. Each server offered their own spin explaining the dishes in an unpretentious way. We especially appreciated Kristen's fun, friendly, and engaging overview of the wines and whiskey. Each visit and explanation made the experience even more special. One recommendation is to sit at the bar. We had the corner seating at the bar and it was both intimate and also offered a great view of the team preparing dishes. It was fascinating to see the team in action, working seamlessly to make your experience special. The tasting menu is pricey and they do have add-ons with whiskey and wine pairings, a fresh fish market, and other food options. While the food add-ons sounded good, we did not need to take advantage as we left more than full. Given this great experience, we are hoping to return again soon or give Amazonia a try! Thanks for a great experience!

I had an amazing experience at a Michelin-starred restaurant in DC to celebrate my birthday. The ambiance was casual, with 80s or 90s hip-hop music playing. We sat at the counter, which allowed us to see the food being prepared, making it a great experience. The service was impeccable and informative. We had 3 or 4 different waiters, and they all knew the menu and how the dishes were made. The presentation of the food was great. One of my favorite dishes was the purple one, made of some kind of potatoes. I learned that Peruvian cuisine has a significant Japanese influence, similar to Japanese Omakase style. The first menu item was blue fin, which was fresh and had an amazing sauce. The second one was red snapper sashimi with an extra order of delicious sauce. The third was black truffle, which added an expensive taste. The fourth was dried miso Cod, very soft and meaty with nicely seasoned miso. The fifth was a rice dish, a nice way to digest. The sixth was a whole grilled red snapper with amazing chimichurri sauce. The last savory dish had amazing seasoning and melted in my mouth. The dessert was refreshing, and despite not thinking I could finish it all, I loved the cute flower presentation and ended up eating everything. I highly recommend this restaurant for people who truly appreciate food, especially fish and vegetables.

I've been here once before but this time, I went with my friend who is Peruvian. We thought overall, this place is absolutely fantastic. We shared a lot of food together. Some of the food includes the meat skewers. We particularly liked the chicken thighs and ordered two of those. We also ordered Lomo saltado, though I've had better, potatoes, which was great with the aji de gallena type sauces, ceviche and lomo saltado. I have had better lomo saltado, although it was still really good. We of course also ordered the chocolate cake, which was wonderful. The service was quick. We received everything very timely. The ambiance was wonderful too. The bathrooms were clean and we felt we had enough space for all the food we ordered. I suggest this place to anyone, although it may be tough for vegetarians.
